JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Rural Fire Department (JRFD) was one of 39 organizations across the state to receive a grant from the North Dakota Community Foundation.

The North Dakota Community Foundation (NDCF) has awarded $172,646 in grants from its Statewide Greatest Needs Fund to organizations working to improve the quality of life for state residents.

“It is because of generous donors that we are able to award these grants,” said Kevin J. Dvorak, President & CEO of NDCF. “Their gifts years ago continue to make a difference today.”

The NDCF Board of Directors reviewed and discussed 104 grant applications at their meeting in September to make the determination of awards.

Some projects receiving grant dollars include the Tri-Cities JJDA, Harvey Kiwanis Club, Fredonia American Legion Post #0260, Strasburg Park District, Wishek JDA, Wishek Senior Citizens Club and more.

The JRFD was awarded $5,000 to be used for some wildland firefighting equipment.

“It will be put towards the purchase of a new grass unit similar to the one in the background of the picture,” the JRFD states. “These units help us reach hard-to-reach places where our larger trucks cannot go.”
