VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Hi-Liners were coming off of arguably their best win of the season on Tuesday night, when they traveled to Fargo and upset Shanley in four matches. Unfortunately for Valley City, it was not the result they were looking for on this Thursday night at the Hi-Liner Activity Center. Valley City ultimately losing tonight’s match up in five sets to the Sheyenne Mustangs, after winning the first 2 set.

The first set of the night was a classic. Both teams were back and forth the entire match. At no point did either team have no more than a 3 point lead. The Hi-Liners ended up getting the win 26-24. Peyton Pederson, Samantha Hatcher, and Dylann Diegel played major factors in Valley City winning the first set.

The second set started the same as the first set. Both teams exchanging points and would be tied at thirteen. That is well the Hi-Liners would build a seven point lead, and put the second set away with the 25-19 victory. Once again Pederson, Hatcher, and Diegel propelled Valley City in the second set.

In the third set we started off just like the previous two, back and forth an even and close match up. This time, the Mustangs would get big performances from Vivienne Heidt and Lexus Terhark to take the 25-18 win.

The fourth set belonged to Sheyenne in convincing fashion. The Mustangs were riding the momentum from their win in the third set and cruised to the 25-10 win, thanks to Reagan Bogenreif and Vivienne Heidt.

In the fifth and final set the Mustangs came away with the 15-7 win to take the match up. One storyline that should be noted was the energy and intensity from Sheyenne Junior Reagan Bogenreif. Even in the first two losses, she was still playing with a lot of energy and heart and in my opinion that eventually rubbed off to her team and should be a major credit in sparking her teams dramatic come back on the night.

On the night for Valley City Peyton Pederson with another strong game up front as she finished with 13 kills. Abbey Thornton lead her team with 28 digs. Finally, Dylann Diegel finished the night with 34 assists. Next up for the Hi-Liners is another home game on Monday night as they welcome Grand Forks Central to town for a 7PM match up, and that can be heard on KOVC.
