OAKES, N.D. (NDFU) – Summit Carbon Solutions will be hosting a series of open houses on a new carbon capture and storage project in North Dakota.

The purpose of the open houses is to engage with landowners who will be impacted by the project.

Earlier this year, Summit Carbon Solutions proposed developing a new carbon capture and storage project located in North Dakota along with South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska and Iowa. The project, Midwest Carbon Express, will capture carbon dioxide emissions that otherwise would be emitted into the atmosphere from biorefineries such as ethanol plants, compress the captured emissions, and transport it through a pipeline to just outside of Bismarck where it will be permanently and safely stored underground in deep geologic storage locations.

As a $4.5 billion total investment, the Midwest Carbon Express project will unlock significant economic opportunities for ethanol producers and corn growers who currently sell more than 40% of their crops to the ethanol industry. This investment will spur significant economic development and job growth including 14,000 to 17,000 jobs during construction and 350 to 460 full-time jobs once operational. And because North Dakota enjoys some of the most abundant geologic storage potential in the world, this project and others like it have the potential to deliver substantial long-term economic benefits to the state in the years to come.

In order to hear directly from landowners and other North Dakota residents about the Midwest Carbon Express project, Summit Carbon Solutions is holding a series of open houses in the coming weeks. We hope you can join us for one of these upcoming sessions. A full list of meetings, including dates, times, and locations, is included below.
