JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – In a wild match on Thursday night at Jerry Meyer Arena, the Blue Jays took down Minot (25-16, 31-29, 27-25) in straight sets.
Jamestown came back from down 9-4 in the first set, scoring 21 of the final 28 points in set one. Minot battled back in set two to force overtime, but the Blue Jays eventually outlasted the Majettes in the second set. Minot again forced overtime in the third and had the opportunity to take set three before Jamestown captured the last three points to complete the sweep.
Junior Bernadette Newman once again was the leader in kills, finishing the match with 14. Newman now leads the team in kills in WDA play this season with 113. Seven different Blue Jays recorded a kill in the sweep, and seniors Annie Nabwe and Hunter Petersen combined for 14 kills. Makenna Nold put tons of pressure on the Majettes from the service line, ending the night with four aces. Rylee Joseph, Jada Walter, and Katie Trumbauer all had one service ace, and Trumbauer added in three kills.
Jamestown now has a 14-5 overall record on the year and improved in the WDA standings to 8-4. The Blue Jays will compete in the Scheels Invitational Friday and Saturday in Fargo, before heading to Mandan next Tuesday to take on the Braves.
