VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City State volleyball team took care of business in a crucial conference game against Mayville State winning in three straight sets by a score of 25-14, 25-22, 25-16.
The first set was total domination by the Vikings with a .417 hitting percentage, but making some attack errors. Junior middle blocker Bailey Nelson led the charge with six kills in the first set for Valley City State.
Set number two was much closer for the entirety of the set, but VCSU was able to make some crucial kills down the stretch to keep Mayville State from taking it.
The Vikings cleaned up in the final set with the Comets hanging around for a bit, but Mayville State made some mistakes towards the end which allowed Valley City State to take the sweep.
Nelson led the way with 16 kills and 16.5 points. Senior outside hitter Katie Juarez led the Vikings in digs with 22 and NSAA Defender of the Week Kallene Klever had 15 digs. Freshman setter passed the ball very well for Valley City State with 46 assists to show for it.
The Vikings have a couple days off before facing Presentation back in Graichen Gymnasium on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. VCSU improves to 4-2 in conference play and is now in solo third place with an overall record of 7-13. As for Mayville State, they fall to 2-4 in conference play with a 12-8 overall record. The two teams will square off again on November 3rd in Mayville.
