VALLEY CITY, N.D. – (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City State had no issues with Mayville State on Saturday afternoon in Lokken Stadium as the Vikings won in a 49-0 rout.

It started early with the Vikings’ first drive when senior running back Justice Bice scored from six yards out less than three minutes into the game. Not much later, senior quarterback Jalen Pfeifer connected with senior tight end Jorun Hamre from three yards out to get out to a 14-0 lead with 5:48 remaining in the first quarter.

To start the second quarter, the Vikings started their drive from their own two yard line and generated a 98-yard drive capped off by a three-yard touchdown reception by freshman wide receiver Mack Jones. They weren’t done scoring in the first half as they got a 90-yard touchdown reception to Bice with 1:39 left in the half to go up 28-0.

With the rout on early, VCSU was able to keep on the gas pedal and opened up with a touchdown to senior wide receiver Michael Cornelius from 22 yards out. It wasn’t the prettiest half of football from the Vikings but they were able to get a couple of junk time touchdowns from Pfeifer on the ground from 26 yards out and freshman backup running back James Nyanforh.

Pfeifer finished with 310 passing yards, completing 17 of his 27 passes with four passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown. Bice had 209 total yards with 107 receiving yards and a touchdown and 102 rushing yards and a touchdown. Freshman linebacker Riley Gerhardt had a field day with the Mayville State offensive line with four sacks.

VCSU improves to 3-0 in NSAA conference play and 5-0 overall. Mayville State falls to 0-4 in conference play and 0-6 overall. The Vikings look to continue their perfect season on the road next Saturday at Presentation College at 6:00 p.m.
