CRETE, NE. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown football team dropped to .500 in the GPAC on Saturday as the Jimmies fell 44-20 to Doane in Nebraska.

Doane would strike for the first 17 points of the game before the Jimmies got on the scoreboard with 49 seconds to play before the break on a pass from Cade Torgerson to Isaak Roebuck for 17 yards. It was a nine-play, 75-yard drive that resulted in Roebuck’s first receiving touchdown.

Jamestown started the second half on defense, but UJ jumped on a fumble to take over in Doane territory. Three plays and 31 yards later, Torgerson picked up his second touchdown pass of the game when he connected with Steve Justice for a 22-yard score. After a blocked extra point, Doane would snap the 13 point run by the Jimmies with a 12 play, 69-yard drive which was capped off with a one-yard quarterback sneak by Vaugh Martinez to put the Tigers ahead 24-13.

Doane began the fourth quarter with a score to put the game out of reach as Martinez got his second rushing touchdown of the day. The Tigers would score 20 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, before a late receiving touchdown by Roebuck.  UJ forced three turnovers on defense, picking off Martinez twice and recovering a fumble, but the Jimmies were only plus one in the turnover margin.

Torgerson ended the day 17-42 passing for 172 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Roebuck was the leading receiver for the Jimmies, making five catches for 89 total yards and two touchdowns. The Jimmies were held to just 231 total yards of offense on Saturday afternoon.

Jamestown, now 2-3 on the season and 2-2 in the GPAC, starts a three-game homestand next Saturday beginning against Concordia. Next Saturday is homecoming for the Jimmies, with kickoff set for 1 pm at Rollie Greeno Field.
