JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The city of Jamestown will be celebrating Arbor Day a little later this year.
Typically held on the last Friday in April, many states observe Arbor Day on different dates throughout the year based on best tree planting times in their area. Much like Earth Day, Arbor Day celebrates nature and its purpose is to encourage people to plant trees. People can also organize tree-planting and litter-collecting events.
That’s what City Forester Erik Laber has planned for Friday, October 1st.
“We have about 6 trees to plant, mulch, and stake,” Laber says. “Shovels will be provided, but if people so choose to bring a shovel or rake that will ensure there is enough to go around.”
Laber says they’ll be planting trees at 9 AM at the Water Treatment Plant at 325 17th St SE. He says they’ll welcome volunteers and attendees to join them.
“The mayor will have a proclamation ready, however he may not be available that day due to possible scheduling conflict,” Laber said.
