JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – It was a record breaking weekend for Dakota Motocross in Jamestown.
Organizer Jett Mutschler says on September 26th & 27th, they held their 6th Annual Dash for Cash Race.
“We came up with this idea in 2015 with one of my really good buddies, Cody Martin, who passed away in June,” Mutschler stated. “Our first Dash for Cash we brought in roughly 400 entries. This spring we received a grant from Jamestown Tourism to hire Tracy Freeman to revamp the track with the intent to attract more people.”
Because of the support of local businesses and friends, Mutschler says they were able to raise a lot of money to make this year the biggest and best one yet.
“Between the Dash for Cash Purse, Gift Card and random Giveaways for the Kids, and Trophies we had around $20,000 in prizes and awards,” he stated. “Regardless, we planned for this one to be bigger and better. With help from my family and a few local members we did as much as possible to make sure the 2021 was the best one yet.”
Mutschler says he enjoys promoting races and when they’re out of state racing, he tries to promote the track and their races all year long to ensure people know about it. He added the overall goal is to ensure everyone has fun and they put on a show.
And based on the numbers reported, Mutschler’s work paid off.
“This year we had 386 entries on Saturday, which is a new state record [and] probably one of the bigger turnouts in the Midwest as far as local Moto goes,” Mutschler stated. “Between Saturday and Sunday, we had over 720 entries, not including the extra little races we did for the kids and the Dash for Cash. We had a little under 500 spectators per day as well. The pits were packed, the RC track, mini track, and playground were loaded from Sun up until we shut the lights off. It was awesome.”
Mutschler says they also had some of the state’s fastest racers with 8 pro riders who have all raced in Pro Nationals. Saturday’s winner was Preston Kilroy of Wyoming, who left with $6,800. Michael Hicks of Missouri took Sunday’s win and left with more than $4,800.
Mutschler says the success of the event was thanks to their many sponsors, local and regional businesses, riders, volunteers, and family.
