Bruce Sherwin Zacharias, 76, of rural Kathryn, North Dakota passed away on Monday, September 27, 2021 at The Legacy Place, Valley City, North Dakota under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley and previously of Sanford Hospice House, Fargo, North Dakota.
Bruce was born on December 31, 1944 to Vincent and Edith (Sandstrom) Zacharias. He grew up on the family farm, was a life-long member of Waldheim Lutheran Church and graduated from Nome High School in 1963. He served in the United States Army from August 1965 to August 1967 during the Vietnam War.
Bruce lived in California for 10 years before returning to the family farm. For many years, he farmed along with his brother and sister-in-law, Vaughn and Dorinda and his nephews Vance, Verlin and Donovan. As young boys Bruce and his brother Lynn took an interest in hunting. Bruce loved the outdoors and enjoyed a lifetime of hunting experiences with family and friends. He also loved music and was a member of the Valley Troubadours for many years. Some of that music from years past will be played at Bruce’s funeral.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his three brothers Keith of Houston, TX, Lynn (Donna) of Sioux Falls, SD, Vaughn (Dorinda) of Kathryn, ND and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents.
A private funeral service will be 9:00 am, Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Waldheim Lutheran Church, Kathryn with the service live streamed at https://vimeo.com/event/1331553 Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in the Waldheim Cemetery.
