JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Huntington’s Disease is rare and affects fewer than 200,000 people in the U.S. every year.

For the Wilhelm family, it’s all too common.

Having lost their mother, grandmother, multiple uncles, and a brother, Rod Wilhelm says they wanted to start their 5K and Car Show to raise awareness and funds to find a cure for Huntington’s Disease.

Wilhelm added they will have individuals from the Huntington’s Disease Society of American Northern Plains Chapter on hand to help answer questions on the disease.

The annual 5K and Car Show is now entering its 10th year as they continue the fight against Huntington’s Disease. The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 25th.

Steve “Skovy” Jaskoviak says what began as a small car show has turned into a highly attended, yearly event.

Skovy says upwards of $2000 in cash is available just through awards in the car show. They’re also hosting a raffle with the grand prize of a 1982 Chevrolet Corvette or $5,000 cash prize alternative.

The day first starts with the 5K run/walk with registration starting at 7 AM and beginning at 8 AM.

Other entities are also involved including Miss Rodeo North Dakota Callie Enander, music will be provided by Steve Kuykendall, and food will be free-will offering.

All funds raised will be donated to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America to find a cure. The event is open to all on September 25th and goes from 8 AM to 2 PM.
