JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The #2 Jimmie women’s volleyball team played a fantastic second set en route to another sweep of a conference opponent (25-22, 25-8, 25-22) as they defeated #9 Northwestern on Tuesday night.
It was a block party during the second set for the Jimmies as Jayla Ritter, Corina Huff, and Kali Hegerle controlled the front row. Ritter and Huff each had two solo blocks for the match, but it was Ritter who led the Jimmies with 10 total blocks in the victory. Hegerle was the lone Jamestown attacker to reach double digits kills with 10, and Ritter added nine more.
As a team, Jamestown had a .129 attack percentage for the match but the defense held the Red Raiders to -.073 hitting. Ellie Holen anchored down the backline, tallying 17 digs and Anna Holen added 14 more while also picking up five kills. Megan Gaffaney was the third and final Jimmie to get into double-digit digs with 10.
The Jimmies are now 15-0 overall and 5-0 in the conference to start the 2021 season. UJ has won 13 of its 15 matches in straight sets and hosts Morningside on Saturday evening at 7:30 pm.
