JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – It was a busy weekend of athletics for Jamestown High School as the Blue Jays competed in soccer and volleyball.

VOLLEYBALL: The #2 Blue Jays girls volleyball team got back on the winning track as Jamestown swept Watford City (25-7, 25-13, 25-17) on Saturday evening.

Senior Hunter Petersen once again led Jamestown on the attack, ending the three set match with a team high eight kills for Jamestown’s 11th win of the year. Haylie Hakanson added seven more kills for the Blue Jays, her third highest total this season in WDA play. Katie Trumbauer helped lead the Jamestown offense in the middle, finishing with 16 assists.

It was the third sweep of the season for Jamestown, and the Blue Jays moved to 11-2 overall and 5-1 in the WDA with the victory. Jamestown will have two road matches this week, traveling to Bismarck High on Tuesday before going to Minot Thursday. The next home match for the Blue Jays is Thursday, September 30th against Bismarck St. Mary’s.

BOY’S SOCCER: Jamestown picked up a point on Saturday at home when the Jays drew with Williston, 3-3.

Ashton Stockert scored his first goal of the year in the tie for the Blue Jays, with the goal coming in the first three minutes of the second half unassisted. The leader in goals for Jamestown, Jarrett Zalumskis, scored his sixth goal of the year in the first half off an assist from Stockert. The third goal of the game came off the foot of Cullen Bennet who grabbed his third goal of the year in the 53rd minute.

Jamestown is now 3-8-1 overall and in the WDA. The Blue Jays have just two regular season matches remaining, including on Tuesday night at 7:30 pm against Dickinson for the final home match of the year.

Girls golf wraps up its regular season Tuesday with the Williston Invite beginning at 10 am. The West Region Tournament will take place in Bismarck next Monday, September 27th with a tee time of 10 am.
