Carrington, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—-The Carrington girls volleyball battled on Saturday afternoon but came up a bit short losing to Central Cass 3-0 (25-17, 27-25, 26-24) and Langdon 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-13, 25-20). Langdon defeated Central Cass 3-2, scoring a 15-13 victory in the fifth set to hand the Squirrels their second loss of the season, both five setters in the past week. The Squirrels were defeated by Northern Cass 3-2 earlier in the week.

The Cardinals opened up the day with Central Cass (9-2) and built a 13-7 lead before the Squirrels stormed back scoring 18 of the final 22 points to take set 1. The final 2 sets both went extra  points but the Squirrels would find a way to get the victory in both to sweep the Cardinals 3-0. Sydnie Grager (6′ senior middle hitter) collected a match high 14 kills to lead the Cardinals offense. Grager added a pair of service aces & stuff blocks as well. Allison Jarrett (5’5 junior outside hitter) added 7 kills and Haley Wolsky (5’9 junior outside hitter) added 6 kills. Emma Rindy (5’5 senior setter) added a match high 4 aces and  24 assists. The Squirrels balanced attack was paced by Jaylin Cotton (5’11 senior middle blocker) with 10 kills and added 2 stuff blocks. Delaney Cotton (5’9 junior rear hitter) added 7 kills, and Claire Cotton (5’9 junior outside hitter) and Kailey McKinnon (5’9 senior outside hitter) both added 6 kills. Decontee Smith (5’9 junior middle blocker) had a match high 4 stuff blocks for the Squirrels.

The battle of the Cardinals went to Langdon 3-1. Carrington would get the first set 25-23, but the Region 4/state powerhouse of Langdon would get the next 3 hard fought sets for the victory. Carrington was paced by Haley Wolsky with 12 kills and Grager would add 10 kills..  Emma Rindy recorded 18 assists as well. Langdon all state player Morgan Freije (5’10 senior middle hitter) had a match high 22 kills and 8 service aces. Morgan Thielbar (5’8 senior outside hitter) added 6 kills for Langdon. Jaylynn Swanson (5’7 sophomore setter) had a match high 31 assists.
