HASTINGS, NE. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown Jimmies came back from down 18 points with five minutes to go in the fourth to defeat Hastings 32-28 on homecoming.

Trailing 28-10 with five minutes to go, UJ blocked a punt to give Cade Torgerson and the Jimmie offense good field position. Two plays later, Torgerson connected with Micah Madyun from 18 yards out to draw the Jimmies within 11 with 4:46 to play.

After the Jimmies forced Hastings to go three and out, Jamestown needed just three plays to score again with Torgerson hitting Javon Bowie-Monteiro this time for a 57-yard touchdown strike. The Jimmies would convert the two-point conversion to put the score at 28-25.

Hastings recovered the Jamestown onside kick and ran two and a half minutes off the clock, but couldn’t pick up a first down and the Broncos were forced to punt the ball back to the Jimmies with 56 seconds to play.

On the first play of the drive, Torgerson hit Madyun on a slant route and Madyun did the rest, taking it 80 yards to the house and giving Jamestown a 32-28 lead with 40 seconds to go. Jamestown would hold on defense to knock off Hastings and pick up their second consecutive win.

Torgerson went 19-40 through the air for 342 yards and four touchdowns. Madyun was the leading receiver for the Jimmies with nine receptions for 217 yards and two scores. Bowie-Monteiro finished the game with two catches for 63 yards and a score.

UJ improves to 2-1 overall on the season and 2-0 in the GPAC. The Jimmies welcome Midland to Rollie Greeno Field on Saturday for a kickoff at 1 pm. The two conference wins for Jamestown match the most conference wins in a season for the Jimmies while in the GPAC.
