SIOUX CITY, Iowa (JimmiePride.com)– Cassandra Diaz (JR/Montebello, Calif.) recorded her first career hat trick and the University of Jamestown women’s soccer team remained unbeaten with a 4-2 win over Morningside University Saturday evening.
Diaz opened the scoring in the 41st minute, scoring off of a rebound from a save by Morningside goalkeeper Sarah Finn.
Jamestown’s lead didn’t last long, as Antonia Janssen headed in a goal off of a cross by Julie Raffel in the 43rd minute.
Karlie Hintze (JR/Herald, Calif.) broke the tie in the 48th minute, heading in a corner kick from Kamryn Fiscus (JR/Yakima, Wash.). Fiscus also set up UJ’s next goal, hitting a beautiful cross from 25 yards out that found Diaz, who connected on the second straight header for the Jimmies and a 3-1 lead in the 52nd minute.
Janssen made it a one-goal game with her second of the match, coming in the 54th minute. Diaz completed her hat trick with a strike in the 57th minute. After being played in from midfield, Diaz gained possession and dribbled in from the 18 towards the right corner, then switched course and slotted the ball in the left inside post.
Shots were 19-12 in favor of Jamestown, as were shots on goal (12-5). Alex Nowka (JR/Anchorage, Alaska) had three saves in goal.
After six straight matches on the road, the Jimmies return home to host Hastings (Neb.) College on Thursday at 5 p.m.
