Current sites for former restaurants in Jamestown sit empty on September 15th, 2021

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Some vacant sites in Jamestown may not sit vacant for long as work continues behind the scenes.

After closing permanently in October 2019, the former Perkins Restaurant building at 2410 Highway 281 S was demolished in February of 2021 and approved for development. The land owned by Schilling Properties of Bismarck and efforts are still underway according to Cary Schilling.

Crews demolish the former Perkins building.

“We are working with tenants, but aren’t able to provide any specifics,” he told NewsDakota. “The city of Jamestown has been great to work with as we look to improve that corner in Jamestown.”

Schilling Properties feature multiple level designs with commercial space on the first floor and residential space on the upper levels. He had previously stated he and a partner would construct a Great Clips franchise along with some potential restaurants in the building.

Another site up for development is the former Hong Kong Buffet at 605 25th St SW. The building was demolished in August 2021.

On Wednesday, September 15th, a variance request was unanimously approved by the City Board of Adjustment. A variance request of 41 parking spaces to construct a 2,400-square-foot restaurant building was included.

Pentex Restaurant Group, which owns restaurants including Taco John’s and HuHot Mongolian Grill in numerous locations, was listed as the property owner on the application. Ninth Skaff Apartments of ND was listed as an applicant on the lot combination.

“Building Plans have been submitted to the City of Jamestown Inspection Department showing that Taco John’s will be operating out of the proposed structure,” Jamestown Building Inspector Tom Blackmore stated.

Requests for comment from Pentex Restaurant Group and Ninth Skaff Apartments of ND were not returned at the time of posting.
