JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Crews began clearing away the old Eagles Building on 2nd Avenue SW Monday afternoon to make room for planned affordable housing units.

The low- to moderate-income housing project known as Eagle Flats will provide an estimated 33 units in a three-floor complex with a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom units in the secured building. This also includes a ground parking level.

The project has faced some delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other factors. In September 2019, the city approved payment in lieu of taxes agreement with Commonwealth setting the property tax due against the property at $35,000 per year for 15 years. Regular property taxes on the estimated $4.8 million value of the property would be about $79,000 per year.

Barring any setbacks, it’s estimated the estimated $8.688 million project could be completed by the Spring of 2022.
