JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The #2 Jamestown Blue Jays snapped Bismarck St. Mary’s 13 game win streak on Friday night with a 20-7 victory over the Saints.

The lone score for Bismarck came in the first quarter after the Saints capitalized on a Jamestown penalty on 4th down. Outside of the first drive, Jamestown’s defense forced four turnovers and recorded a fourth-down stop on the goal line to keep St. Mary’s in check.

Offensively, the Blue Jays got in the scoring column in the second quarter after a 16 play, 80-yard drive resulted in a QB sneak and rushing touchdown from Payton Hochhalter. It wouldn’t be the first time that Hochhalter reached the endzone as he scored again in the fourth with another rushing touchdown. Hochhalter finished the game going 12-19 through the air for 148 yards and a passing touchdown as well. The touchdown through the air for Hochhalter came on a 4th and 9 at the Bismarck 14 when he hit Brode Hillstrom on a slant.

Jakob Schempp led the Blue Jays on the ground with 83 yards on 19 rushing attempts. Paris Ndikum helped split time with Schempp, carrying the ball 11 times for 30 total yards. Jamestown finished the game with 129 yards on the ground.

It was the Jamestown defense that led the charge in the second half, picking off Saints quarterback Nick Schumacher four different times. Adam Kallenbach had two interceptions while Schempp and Ndikum each had a pick. Jamestown is the first team to beat St. Mary’s since the 2019 season.

The Blue Jays are now 3-0 overall and in the WDA with the final West Region game happening next Friday night at Watford City. Kickoff is set for 7 pm and the Wolves come in following a 24-18 win over Turtle Mountain.
