VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Hi-Liners were back at home for the second time this season and this time they were hosting the Shanley Deacons. Shanley came into tonight’s match up with a record of 3-1 and having lost their previous match up to West Fargo 3 matches to 2.

In the first match, Valley City won 26-24. The Hi-Liners showed a lot of character in this set as they trailed by 4 points 3 separate times. Finally, they were able to escape the first match as Seniors Dylann Diegel and Peyton Pederson were key factors down the stretch.

In the second match Valley City scored the first point. However, the two teams were neck and neck all game long. Finally for the Deacons they pulled ahead down the stretch and were able to take the second match 25-22.

In the third match of the evening Valley City once again struck first. Just like the second match, the end result would be in favor of Shanley. During this match, Deacon Senior Paige McAllister made her presence known as she started to dominate the game in the middle of the front row. With her taking control it changed the attack style of the Hi-Liner, and ultimately saw the Deacons take match 3 by a score of 25-17.

In the fourth set of the night once again the Hi-Liners were on the board first. Mimicking the last two games, the first point of this match would not matter. As Paige McAllister of Shanley would completely dominate this game from start to finish. Anytime Valley City would go for a kill in the front row, McAllister was there to block the play and send the ball back to the Hi-Liner side. In the end McAllister was too much to handle and the Deacons took match 4 by a final score of 25-17.

Shanley takes the victory in tonight’s action and moves to 4-1 on the season, meanwhile Valley City drops to 2-4. Next up for the Hi-Liners, they travel to Grand Forks on Thursday.
