Gregory “Greg” Nelson, age 68, of West Fargo, ND formerly of Litchville, ND, died Thursday, September 2nd at Sanford Hospice House, Fargo, ND surrounded by his family.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 9th at Grace Free Lutheran Church in Valley City, ND.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Elim Evangelical Free Church in Valley City and one hour before the funeral at Grace Free Lutheran on Thursday morning.  A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Wednesday Evening at Elim Evangelical Free Church.  Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery near Valley City.  The funeral service and prayer service will be live streamed at www.lerudschuldt.com

Gregory John Nelson, the son of Norris and Alice (Halvorson) Nelson, was born October 21, 1952 in Valley City. He grew up on the family farm near Litchville and attended Svea Consolidated School and Litchville High School, graduating in 1970.  He then attended Valley City State College, graduating in 1974 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry.  After graduation, he taught school and coached in Ashley, ND where he met his future wife, Karla.  They were married June 14, 1980 in Minnewaukan, ND.  In the spring of 1981, they moved to the family farm, taking over the farming operation from his father.  In addition to farming, Greg built two successful businesses selling crop protection products and Pioneer seed.  After retiring in 2010, the couple split their time between Arizona and Detroit Lakes, MN for several years before moving to West Fargo in 2019.

Greg is survived by his wife of 41 years Karla, West Fargo, ND; two sons, Jordan (Tasha) Nelson, Minot, ND and Braeden (Betsy) Nelson, West Fargo, ND; two grandchildren, Noah Patrick Nelson and Emerson Grace Nelson; one brother, Philip Nelson; two sisters, Carol (Gary) Miedema and Mary Ann (Ray) Berntson, all Valley City, ND; three brothers in law, Keith Ankenbauer, Mesa, AZ, Kraig Ankenbauer, Dallas TX and Kevin (Donna) Ankenbauer, San Antonio, TX; one sister in law Karolyn (Gene) Roebuck, Bemidji, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norris and Alice Nelson.
