Dale Hanson, 85, Valley City, North Dakota passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2021 in Sanford Health, Fargo. Visitation with fellowship will be held from 12:00 pm until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, September 7 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Valley City. Inurnment will be at Woodbine Cemetery, Valley City.
Dale Howard Hanson was born August 12, 1936 in Barnes County, North Dakota to Carl and Ella (Helleckson). He attended school in Barnes County. At the age of fourteen Dale helped build the Baldhill Dam in Valley City. Dale joined the United Stated Army when he was seventeen years old serving in Korea.
On June 13, 1959 Dale married Gayle Cobian. Dale was a lifelong member at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Valley City.
In 1959 Dale began his career with Valley City Municipal Utilities (Valley City Public Works) where he was the water and sewer supervisor until his retirement in 2000. He served as the Chair of the North Dakota Section of the American Water Works Association from 1993-1994. Dale was a member of the Water Pollution Control Federation. He received the 1987 President’s Service Award from the North Dakota Water and Pollution Control Conference and in 1988 he received the North Dakota State Department of Health Operator’s Award. Dale received the American Water Works Association of the North Dakota Section George Warren Fuller Award in 1995.
Dale is survived by his son, Rick (Barbara) Hanson of Billings, Montana and their children, Abigail, Booker and Matthew; his daughter, Brenda (Jamie Hull) Hanson Hull of Shoreview, Minnesota; sister, Marjory Welken of Valley City; sisters-in-law, Janet Bailey of Savannah, Georgia and Nikki (Richard) Crain of Three Rivers, California. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers and five sisters.
