JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown High School volleyball team continued its dominant start to the season on Thursday night with a sweep (25-14, 25-22, 25-13) against Dickinson.
While the middle set saw errors that allowed Dickinson to stay in the match, it was the serving in sets one and three that pushed the Jays over the edge. Makenna Nold recorded two service aces in set one and Jamestown had five aces as a team in a quick first set victory. Nold finished the match with four aces and a kill, and three other Blue Jays had at least one ace on the evening, including Rylee Joseph who had three.
Joseph led Jamestown on an 11-0 run from the service line to start set three and put the Jays ahead 11-1. The attacking from Jamestown was spread out across the board as Bernadette Newman and Hunter Petersen each ended the match with eight kills. Katie Falk tallied six more, and Haylie Hakanson recorded five kills in the win. Annie Nabwe led Jamestown up front with three blocks, and Katie Trumbauer and Hakanson each had a block assist.
Aspyn Peterson and Jenna Fischer helped lead the back end of the defense for Jamestown along with Joseph. The Blue Jays improved to 8-1 overall on the season and to 2-0 in the WDA. Jamestown will take on Bismarck Legacy next Thursday at 7 pm before three home matches in a row September 14-18.
