JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – After 41 years of serving with Jamestown Parks & Recreation, Director Doug Hogan will be retiring at the end of the year.

On August 30th, the Parks & Recreation Commission approved the hiring process to find their next director.

Park Board Chairperson Mindi Schmitz says they hope to have someone in place before Hogan is done at the end of the year.

Hogan has declined to take part if the search process, but says if asked, he’ll gladly step in to ask questions or give some guidance.

He added he’s been mulling retirement for a few years, but the past two have really helped him in making the decision.

During his tenure as director, Hogan has overseen some big projects in Jamestown including the Two Rivers Activity Center. He credits his staff and commission with a lot of what the Parks & Recreation Department has been able to accomplish.

Hogan likened his retirement to when he left football officiating. It won’t be the game he misses, it’ll be the people.

Once he retires, Hogan says he’ll still remain apart of the Jamestown Community.

Hogan has been with Parks & Recreation for 41 years and has served as the director since 1998.
