OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Lady Tornadoes started their season off right in their home debut as they defeated the Lisbon Lady Broncos in four sets.

Oakes dominated the first two sets winning them 25-13 and 25-12, respectively. The Lady Tornadoes fed senior Abby Cox and junior Laikyn Roney early and often which was a recipe for success. However, in the third set, Lisbon got sophomore hitter Clarissa Hoffer going and responded with multiple kills of her own. The Lady Broncos beat the Lady Tornadoes 25-19 in the third to extend the match.

In a back and forth fourth set, Oakes ended up coming out on top as they were able to limit their mistakes and execute crucial attacks resulting in a 25-19 victory.

“We’re really trying to figure out the dynamic and how to work with each other and adjust on the go,” Oakes head coach Katelyn Hagen said. “Abby [Cox] is a senior leader for us. She’s been on the court for several years and she’s consistent. She really rallies the troops and tells them where to place the ball and that’s something with a young group that helps quite a bit.”

Oakes improves to 4-1 and is in action again at home against Sargent County on Tuesday, September 7th at 7:30 p.m.
