NORTH FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Hi-Liners opened up their 2021 football season with a 21-0 loss on the road as they headed to North Fargo to battle the Spartans.

Valley City won the opening coin toss, however they elected to defer the ball until after halftime and that gave the home Spartans a chance to get their large fanbase up and rowdy early on.

First Quarter, no score when Spartans running back Peder Haugo bolted for a 41-yard touchdown run to put the home team up 7-0. On to the second quarter now and quarterback Danny Boutain fired a pass across the middle into the leaping hands of wide receiver Nathaniel Frittel who breaks a couple of tackles on his way for the 72-yard score and putting North Fargo up 14-0.Staying in the 2nd quarter, Boutain and Frittel would connect again this time for 19-yards, when the Spartan QB rolled to his right he found the open receiver in the back corner of the endzone to put the Spartans in the lead at 21-0.

It was a tough night for the Hi-Liners, however the offense showed some positive signs throughout the game. Quarterback Gavin Gerhardt, and running back Ethan Miller showed some great chemistry throughout the game, and that will be something to keep an eye on as we move along this season.

Next up for the Valley City Hi-Liners, they make their home debut next Friday night, as they welcome Devils Lake to town for a 7pm kickoff. You can hear the call of game on AM1490-96.3FM KOVC.
