JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown Tourism has been working to expand their toolbox of ways to promote and bring visitors to the city.

One of these has been a summer-long project of gathering photos and videos to create different media packages to use different ways. Jamestown Tourism Executive Director Searle Swedlund says it’s been a priority of theirs to complete this and refresh their current offerings.

Swedlund says the hope is to get those who claim they’ve been to Jamestown by just stopping for gas to actually make Jamestown a destination and not just a stop.

Jamestown Tourism requested $16,250 to fund the video photography and marketing for the community video project. This funding would be paid for using funds held in the trust by the City in the Jamestown Tourism Capital Improvements Fund.

While the project is currently underway, Swedlund says they’re still ironing out a few details as far as utilization. Councilmember Dan Buchanan stated his concerns.

Swedlund stated a project like this is typically very costly.

Councilmember Dave Steele added that he has seen similar projects used by other communities and believes this is a positive step for Jamestown.

The project cost was approved on a 4 to 1 vote with Councilmember Buchanan voting nay.
