(NAFB) – The USDA says export sales of corn dropped week-to-week while wheat sales rose for the seven days ending on August 12.
Corn sales that week totaled 216,500 metric tons, down 43 percent from the previous week but up noticeably from the prior four-week average. Mexico was the biggest buyer at 190,000 metric tons, followed by Canada and El Salvador. The total would have risen higher, but an unnamed country canceled almost 33,000 tons worth of shipments. For the new marketing year starting on September 1, export sales totaled 510,000 metric tons, with Mexico buying almost 308,000 tons. Exports for the week totaled 829,000 metric tons, a 22 percent drop week-to-week.
Wheat sales rose five percent higher to 306,700 metric tons. South Korea bought the most wheat at 76,600 metric tons, followed by Taiwan and Vietnam. Exports were reported at almost 592,000 metric tons, a six percent drop from the previous week.
Soybean sales for the current marketing year ending on August 31 were 67,700 metric tons, 30 percent lower than the previous week but a noticeable jump from the prior four-week average. China was once again the top buyer at 92,300 metric tons. Exports for the week almost doubled to 258,000 metric tons.
