LANGDON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Lisbon Broncos football team opened their 2021 season with a rematch of last years Class A state title game against Langdon Area.

The Cardinals had not lost a game since 2017, and were winners of 38 straight. Both the Broncos and Cardinals are trying to replace key players lost to graduation from last years teams on offense.

On a night in Langdon where it rained the entire game offense was limited.  The Cardinals started the scoring with an 11 yard TD pass to WR #4 Tucker Welsh with 7:26 remaining in the 1st quarter.  The 2pt conversion failed.  The Broncos tied the score at 6-6 in the 2nd quarter after a bad snap sailed over the Cardinal punters head and was scooped up and returned for a TD by Lisbon’s Boeden Greenley.

It looked like the score was going to by tied at 6-6 at the half.  The Cardinals had the ball inside their own 5 yard line after a terrific punt by the Broncos Caeden Sweet pinned them deep with about a minute left in the half.  The first two plays for the Cardinals were runs up the middle for no gain.  It looked like the Cardinals were going to play it safe.  That was until Langdon QB Rayce Worley launched a bomb over the middle that hit WR #3 Markus Kingzett on stride for a 98 yard TD pass with :25 seconds left in the half.

2pt conversion was good. That made it 14 to 6 at the half.

In the second half both defenses took over the game.  The only points scored came with just over two minutes left.  The Cardinals were given a short field after Broncos QB Boeden Greenley threw an interception.  The Cardinals scored on a 2 yard TD run by #2 Carter Tetrault.  2pt. conversion failed.  The final score was 20 to 6.
