VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCSUVikings.com) – Valley City State University has named Clay Mannie as its new Interim Head Golf Coach, athletic director Jill DeVries announced today.

Mannie takes over both the men’s and women’s golf programs, effective immediately. He will also continue as an assistant professor in VCSU’s technology education department where he has been teaching since fall of 2020.

“We are excited to welcome Clay to our VCSU Viking athletics family and look forward to him leading our men’s and women’s golf teams this year,” said DeVries.

Mannie brings 10 years of North Dakota coaching experience to his new role, including coaching junior high and high school golf. He has also coached youth and high school hockey and spent two years specializing in coaching goaltenders. Mannie played two years of junior hockey and one year of college hockey at Concordia College-Moorhead as a goaltender.

“I’m excited to get started working with student-athletes in another aspect of their university experience and look forward to helping them achieve their goals in golf and education,” said Mannie.

Mannie is an alumnus of Valley City State, earning a Master of Education in 2016 and Bachelor of Science in 2006 – both in technology education. Before joining the VCSU faculty in 2020, Mannie worked as a public school teacher for 13 years.

The Viking golf teams open the fall season at the Jimmie Fall Invite on August 29-30.

Valley City State University is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and a conference member of the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA).
