VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Dine, dance and enjoy the music of our own Miss Peggy Lee as performed by the Myron Sommerfeld Orchestra at the Valley City Eagles on Friday, September 10. Beginning at 6:15 PM, the orchestra will perform some of Peggy’s greatest hits with entertaining highlights about her remarkable life and career which began in Valley City. A roast beef dinner will follow, then an hour of dancing to close out a very special evening.
The event commemorates Miss Peggy Lee’s 101st birthday and her many years as one of America’s most popular entertainers. Her career as a successful singer, songwriter, TV and movie star spanned over 60 years from 1936 to 2000. She was a master in the fields of jazz, popular, swing and blues music. ”Fever” and ” Is That All There Is?” are among the best known of her many hits .She wrote and performed the music for Walt Disney’s movie” Lady and the Tramp” and starred in a remake of “The Jazz Singer”. Peggy was a friend of many famous stars of her era and an inspiration to a new generation of female singers like Adele, Billie Eilish, Madonna, Diana Krall and KD Lang. Fans of Sesame Street may know her as the Muppet Miss Piggy whose original name was shortened from Miss Piggy Lee!
Tickets for the event cost $25 per person and are available until September 1 at the Barnes County Museum , from museum board member as well as the Barnes County Historical Society Website. All proceeds for the event will benefit the Barnes County Museum.
