FINLEY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – One person is dead after a head-on collision in Steele County Wednesday, August 18th.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports the accident happened at 6:30 AM on Highway 32, roughly 12.5 miles south of Finley.

A Peterbilt was traveling southbound on Highway 32 and a Chevy Avalanche was traveling northbound. The Chevy crossed over the center line and struck the Peterbilt head-on. The semi and trailer continued into the west ditch traveling south and the Chevy entered the east ditch, rolling onto its top and catching fire.

The 35 year-old driver from Lisbon was pronounced dead on the scene by the Steele County corner. Semi driver Ernest Matelski, 54, of Hillsboro was not injured. The crash remains under investigation.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol was assisted by the Steele County Sheriff, Hope Ambulance, and Hope Fire Department.
