JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown Area Ambulance and Jamestown EMS Education will be welcoming in their fall class of new recruits on August 23rd.
As Emergency Medical Services (EMS) across the country deal with roster shortages, EMS Operations Manager Andrew Berkey says they’re hopeful their courses will help fill those needs locally.
Berkey says they’re also seeing higher call volume in and around Jamestown this year, prompting the need for more EMTs.
The fall classes are scheduled to begin August 23rd with the registration deadline approaching quickly.
Alicia Turner is the EMS Coordinator for Jamestown EMS Education.
She added that education is important to make EMTs better for the service, community, and their patients. She said that their staff would be more than willing to answer any questions about what EMS is and how to get involved.
Berkey agrees that EMS isn’t for everyone, but says you are welcome to join them for a class or ride along to get a feel for the what the job entails. He also added that those who sign up aren’t required to make it a full-time career.
He says they also offer grants that help with the costs of taking the EMT course.
