JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Opening day of the 2021 District 4 American Legion Baseball Tournament was held at Jack Brown Stadium on Tuesday with three games, here are the results:

Jamestown Blues 9 Nelson County 4 (play-in game)

The Number five seeded Owls led 4-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning and never trailed, but then the Blues of Jamestown exploded for six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and end up knocking the Owls out of the tournament 9-4 in the first game of the day. Number four seed Jamestown improves to 14-10 overall, NC Owls end their season at 2-11 overall. Reagan Sortland picks up the victory, working an inning and a third in relief of his cousin Adam, who started the game and pitched five and two-thirds, 93 pitches, three runs, two earned, one strikeout, seven hits and four walks. Preston Lee took the loss, working six innings, nine runs, three earned, two strikeouts, 11 hits, two walks, two hit batters. At the plate for Nelson County Owls, Garret Hawkenson was 3-for-5, with two singles, one double and two RBI, Ross Thompson added two singles and Lee had a single and double. For Jamestown, Ashton Stockert was 3-for-4, with three singles, scored twice and two RBI, Tyson Jorissen was 4-for-4, with a single, three doubles and two RBI.

Sheyenne/New Rockford 8  Jamestown 7

Top seeded Sheyenne-New Rockford escaped with an 8-7 victory over the Jamestown Blues thanks to Koven Wohlford’s RBI double in the bottom of the seventh that scored Trevor Waldo, who reached on a base on balls, to start the inning. Wohlford, Alex Harrison, Nick Berglund, and Hunter Jacobson all went 2-4 in the game. Jacobson had 3 RBI and drilled a 2-run home run in the second inning. Harrison pitched the final 2/3 inning and picked up the pitching victory. Evan Ulrich pitched the first 6 1/3 innings allowing 7 runs, 4 earned, 7 strikeouts, and allowed 6 hits. The Blues Ashton Stockert and Tyson Jorissen both went 2-4 at the plate. Reagan Sortland and Ethan Gall both scored 2 runs to lead the Blues offense. Stockert, the fourth pitcher of the game for the Blues took the loss, allowing the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. S-NR improved to 15-3 with the win and the Blues dropped to 14-11.

 

Carrington 2  Kidder County 1

Carrington Post 25 just about spoiled a great pitching performance from Lucas Hendrickson but pulled off a comeback victory with 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Kidder County (KC)  2-1. Hendrickson allowed just 1 run and it was the first at bat of the game. Jayden Rath (3-4, run, 2 SB) led off the game with a base hit and later scored KC’s only run when he stole home on a double steal attempt. Hendrickson allowed 7 hits (3 after the second inning), struck out 10 batters, walked 2 batters (1 intentional), and hit 1 batter to earn the pitching victory. Hendrickson also went 2-3 at the plate. Hudson Schmitz was the only other Carrington batter with a multi hit game going 2-4 including the game winning 2 RBI single that scored Jack Erickson and Kael Kovar with 2 outs in the bottom of the seventh for the walk off victory. Carrington improves to 6-3 overall and KC dropped to 8-10 overall.
