JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – A nine-run second inning for the Bismarck Post 1 Governors on day two of the Phil Brown Classic Thursday afternoon led Bismarck to a 10-0 win against Jamestown in four innings.
Jamestown tallied just two hits as an offense during game one on Saturday, with Mason Lunzman and Preston Kroeber each picking up singles. The only other runner to reach in the first game was Ty Monson, who got to first in the third inning off of a defensive error by the Governors.
Kasen Rowell was the losing pitcher for Post 14, pitching into the second inning and allowing eight total runs, seven were earned. Carson Orr pitched in relief once again on Saturday afternoon, giving up two runs in three innings.
GAME TWO: JAMESTOWN EAGLES 4, GILLETTE ROUGHRIDERS 3
An exciting game two saw Jamestown pick up a walk-off win in the bottom of the seventh after Jackson Walters beat out a double play ball to score Kroeber and give the Eagles their first win of the Phil Brown Classic.
Gillette got on the scoreboard in the first inning with two runs, but Walters settled in on the hill after that, going all seven innings and allowing just one earned run. Walters also struck out six and at one point retired 11 consecutive Gillette hitters in the victory.
Offensively in game two, Payton Hochhalter went 2-for-3 with two singles and drove in two runs in the second inning. Post 14 took a 3-2 lead in the third inning when Michael Mahoney scored on a double play. The Eagles tallied seven total hits during game two and left four runners on base.
Post 14 will play at 12:30 on Sunday against the Madan Chiefs on the final day of the Phil Brown Classic. Bismarck will play Gillette to open the day at 10 am, and the winners of those two games will meet in a championship game at approximately 3 pm.
