JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Water safety is at the top of the list during the summer months.
Game & Fish Wildlife Biologist Doug Leier reports that as the hot days continue, so does the increased chance for Blue-green Algae to develop in state waters.
Potential for Blue-green Algae to develop happens in Spring, but as temperatures rise, there is an increase for growth during the warmer months of the year. While an advisory is issued for area waters, Leier says it’s important to still be cautious.
Currently, advisories have been issued for Lake Hoskins in McIntosh County, Spiritwood Lake, Jamestown Reservoir, Alkali Lake, and Pipestem Reservoir in Stutsman County, Lake LaMoure in LaMoure County, Frettim Lake in Kidder County, and Beaver Lake in Logan County.
In other water safety information, Leier says boat accidents are required to be reported to Game & Fish.
A boat accident form available on the Game and Fish Department website, gf.nd.gov, at any Game and Fish office or by contacting a local game warden.
You can listen to Doug Leier talk the Great Outdoors each Thursday at 7:35 AM on Big Dog 95.5 FM.
