oakes-3

ENDERLIN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Oakes’ bats stayed hot in their 16-3 win at Enderlin as they hit their first two home runs of their legion season. Left-fielder Steele Hansen hit the first one for a grand slam in the second inning to grow their lead to 6-0. Starting pitcher Garrett Meehl hit the second one with two men aboard in the fourth inning to put the game away.

Oakes’ offense had seven hits in this one and were beaned by seven pitches as well. In the past two games, Oakes has been hit by 14 pitches with 15 hits. They have also scored 31 runs in those games in just combined seven innings.

As for the pitching, there was just one blemish and that was a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the third from opposing third baseman Garrett Hanson. Other than that, Meehl was just about perfect. Meehl allowed four hits, and only one walk while striking out four in his start. Relief pitching from Conor Schall and Joey Heim combined for just one hit allowed, no walks and no earned runs.

Oakes now gets ready for the Class B District 7 Tournament starting Monday which will be back in Enderlin where they will face an opponent to be announced.
