Valley City, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Haymakers jumped out to a 4 run lead in the first two innings on their way to the victory tonight. However, the Valley City Royals rallied in the bottom of the third inning, scoring 4 runs of their own to tie up the ball game at 4. After the two ball clubs exchanged a couple of scoreless innings, Casselton pushed across a run in the top of the sixth inning to take a 5 to 4 lead, and then would put up a 4 spot in the top of the seventh inning to win this one 8 to 4.

 

Casselton scored a run in the first on an RBI double by Max Kobbervig. They would then add 3 more in the top of the second. With 2 on and 2 out, catcher Kam Parker smacked a 2 RBI triple deep to right field scoring Aiden Olson and Josh Gunderson. In the sixth inning with Max Kobbervig on base, Ethan Muchow hit and RBI single to break the 4 to 4 tie. In the top of the 7th inning the Haymakers would score 4 runs. The devastating blow came at the hands of Max Kobbervig once again, as he lined a triple into deep left field scoring 2 runs and putting Casselton up 8 to 4.

For Valley City their big inning at the plate came in the 3rd. Trailing by 4 runs they would score 4 themselves to tie the game up. After 2 quick strike outs and a couple of walks by the Royals batters, catcher Joe Cummings hit a 2 RBI double to make it a 1 run ball game. Cummings would come around tie score and tie up the game when Devyn Thornton reached on a fielding error by Casselton. Unfortunately, that was all the Valley City line up could muster up on this evening.

On the mound Casselton starter Josh Gunderson went 4 innings, giving up just the 4 runs while striking out 6 Royal hitters. Mason Bosse would come in for relief to start things off in the fifth, and he would toss 3 scoreless innings while striking out 4. For Valley City, Braxton Jorisson went the full 7 innings on the mound. He gave up 4 earned runs and struck out 3 Haymaker batters.

Valley City will be back in action tomorrow action tomorrow as they travel to Grand Forks.
