JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Post 14 Eagles lost for the first time in the West Region this season on Tuesday as the Dickinson Volunteers defeated Jamestown 4-3 in game one before the Eagles crushed Dickinson 14-1 in game two.
The Eagles got on the scoreboard in the first inning behind a leadoff single from Gage Orr, who eventually came around to score on a passed ball. The Jamestown offense struggled against the Dickinson pitching staff, etching just four total hits while leaving ten runners on base. Isaac Mimong had a 1-for-1 game with a double and a walk, and Nolan Nenow scored two runs as the courtesy runner for Mimong.
Starter Ty Monson went four and two-thirds, giving up five total hits and three runs, none were earned. The Eagles committed three errors defensively which led to all but one of the Dickinson runs. Monson was handed the loss, and out of the bullpen Gage and Carson Orr combined for two and a third innings of no-hit one-run baseball in relief.
Game two saw the offense come alive for the Eagles in the fourth inning when Jamestown put up nine runs off of 10 hits. Connor Hoyt brought in two runs to put Post 14 ahead 2-1, and then the offense ramped up as Michael Mahoney, Kasen Rowell, Mason Lunzman, Jackson Walters, and Jacoby Nold all brought in runs. Hoyt and Nold each brought in three total RBIs in game two. Five different Eagles recorded two hits or more during the second game.
Hoyt tossed all six innings for Jamestown, striking out seven Volunteer batters, allowing just one hit and walking none. Jamestown (19-7, 15-1) holds the number one seed heading into the West Region Tournament next week in Watford City.
