Parker “Butch” Hamstad, Jr, age 64, of Valley City, ND, died November 8, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Valley City after a courageous battle with cancer.

A graveside committal service will be held at 12:30 PM on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Memory Gardens Cemetery near Valley City.  A celebration of Parker’s life will be held from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the Valley City Eagles Club in Valley City.

Parker “Butch” Orwin Hamstad, Jr., the son of Parker and Bertha (Gramstad) Hamstad, Sr., was born July 12, 1956 in Valley City, ND.  Butch grew up on a small dairy and grain farm near Rogers, ND and then Hastings, ND until the family moved to Valley City in 1968.  He worked at PAMIDA, Leevers and went custom combining until becoming a long-term employee of Cenex in Valley City.  He retired in 2010 after having a stroke.  Butch joined the brotherhood of the Dakota Riders Motorcycle Club in the early 1980’s.  He remained an active member until his retirement in 2018.  His favorite events were the DRMC Hillclimb, his beloved “Fighting Sioux” hockey games, old steam engine shows especially the Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion in Rollag and toy shows.

Butch is survived by his sisters, Sarah Buckingham, Baxter, MN, Barbara Mason, Fargo, ND and Phyllis (Greg) McKee, Hazen, ND; four nephews and their families, Rodney (DeeMaris) Buckingham, Brainerd, MN, Beau (Hollie) Mason, Mountain Iron, MN, Matthew McKee, Bismarck, ND and Michel Mason, Fargo, ND; two nieces, Debra (Mike) Krogen, Bloomington, MN and Meghann McKee, Redmond, WA; his Dakota Riders Brothers; many cherished friends especially Bob Bruns and family and the VCHS Class of 1974.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Speedy the cat, a niece, Lynda, a nephew, Brandon and his brother-in-law Darwin.
