SANBORN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The dedication of the Veterans Park in Sanborn was held on Saturday, July 3rd. Hundreds of people attended the ceremony.
Veterans Park committee chairman Joe Pesek said it was an amazing turnout. He said nearly 600 names are on the Mesabi black granite stone from every branch in the U.S. Military. Pesek and all of the committee members thanked everyone and the businesses that donated to make this project a reality.
Shortly after 12pm Toby McPherson flew over the new Veterans Park with his World War II P-51 Mustang.
Army Veteran Eldred Knutson said this is a great tribute to those who served and some who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
Army Veteran Mike Heinze served with a U.S. Army Air Mobile Cavalry unit in Vietnam. He said it’s so nice to be welcomed back home for our service.
Heinze told the crowd about what a typical day might entail for a Cavalry unit in Vietnam.
