JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The James River Humane Society is encouraging pet owners to take steps to keep their pets safe when the temperatures are high.

Board Member Jay Nitschke says there are some things you can look for when it comes to your pets health in the heat.

The Humane Society says you can also keep a pet from overheating indoors or out with a cooling body wrap, vest or mat. Soak these products in cool water, and they’ll stay cool (but usually dry) for up to three days. If your dog doesn’t find baths stressful, see if they enjoy a cooling soak.

Nitschke says they also continue to find forever homes for their cats and dogs. She says many cats were adopted during the month of June when adoption fees were lowered for Shelter Cat Month.

At this time, they continue to do meet and greets and adoptions by appointment only.

The James River Humane Society will also be holding a rummage sale at the shelter on July 10th from 10 AM to noon. There will be lunch available and the shelter is accepting all donations that can be sold at the rummage sale. Donations can be left the night before on July 9th at 5:30 PM.
