Valley City, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Post 60 Royals win in dramatic fashion on Thursday night, getting a walk-off win against the Fargo Post 400 Astros.
The Royals struck first in the second inning after Pitcher Mitchell Taylor lead off the inning getting hit by a pitch. He would come around to score by and RBI single from Ethan Miller. First Baseman Devyn Thornton would single in the inning, and would come around to score on a fielders choice.
In the fourth, Taylor would get on first again, this time via a walk, and came around to score to give Valley City a 3 to 1 lead.
Fargo Post 400 would get a run in the fourth thanks to catcher Hayden Kressin. The Astros would get a pair of runs in the top half of the sixth inning to tie the game up at 3.
In the home half of the 7th inning, Joe Cummings lead off the inning with a single that ate up second baseman Grant Matter. He would then have Max Mehus come and be a courtesy runner for him. After a couple of miscues by the Fargo defense, Mehus found himself on third base. That’s when Braxton Jarrssen stepped to the plate. Jarrssen, who had just pitched a scoreless top of the 7th waited patiently for his pitch, and drove the game winning him to left field, as Mehus came around to score and give VC the 4 to 3 victory.
Mitchell Taylor got the start for the Royals on the mound. He pitched 6 great innings using his curveball to mix up the Astros hitter. He goes 6 innings, with 1 earned run, and striking out 6 hitters.
Valley City is back in action on Tuesday, as they will face West Fargo.
