unnamed-1-13

It was a promising start for Oakes as they went up 5-0 after four innings, but their relief pitching and defensive mistakes cost Oakes in 6-5 loss against Lisbon.

Right-handed pitcher Howie Neustel got the start and had a solid four innings giving up just two walks, three hits and no runs with three strikeouts. To add to it, the offense got off to a hot start with an RBI single by left-fielder Steele Hansen in the first inning. They added three more runs to their lead in the third with RBI singles by center-fielder Fletcher Willprecht and Hansen once again. Hansen came home after a Lisbon error. Shortstop Garret Meehl got the final Oakes run of the game in the fourth inning with an RBI double.

When Neustel left the game, it was Lisbon’s time to strike. Two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth would tie the game 5-5 going into the bottom of the seventh. With the bases loaded, an error brought home the final run to end the game. Oakes would end up committing four errors in the final three innings to propel Lisbon to a win.

Oakes falls to 7-2 and will play at LaMoure on July 7th at 7:00 p.m. on KDDR.
