JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – With the warmer temperatures and holiday weekend, Game & Fish Wildlife Biologist Doug Leier says its a recipe for increased boat and water traffic on North Dakota waters.

Leier reminds everyone that it is North Dakota law that anyone age 10 and younger in the state wear a PFD lifejacket when you’re on and around the water.

It is unlawful for any person to operate or to be a passenger on any vessel less than 27 feet in length unless all persons 10 years of age or younger present on the vessel, wear an appropriately sized and properly fastened U.S. Coast Guard approved type I, II or III wearable personal flotation device while the vessel is in operation.

In other water news, Leier says anyone going fishing who is age 16 or older must have their fishing license.

You can visit gf.nd.gov to buy your license or learn more information.
