JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – A back and forth game at Jack Brown Stadium on Tuesday night saw the Jamestown Post 14 Eagles come from behind to defeat Valley City’s Post 60 Royals 8-6 in a nine inning exhibition game.

Valley City trailed 3-1 entering the fourth inning when they took the lead behind a two-out five run inning. Gavin Gerhardt brought in two runs with a bases loaded single and Mitch Taylor tallied an RBI of his own to put the Royals in front. A defensive error by Jamestown allowed two more runs to score and gave Post 60 a 6-3 advantage entering the bottom of the fourth.

The Eagles chipped away at the lead in the fourth, scoring both of their runs in the frame off of a two RBI double by Jacoby Nold. Jamestown would regain the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Jackson Walters and Isaac Mimong each delivered RBIs to put the Eagles up 7-6.

The only other run scored on Tuesday evening came in the bottom of the seventh after Gage Orr reached base on an error to start the inning. After moving to second on a groundout, Walters tripled, scoring Orr and providing Jamestown with an extra insurance run.

Orr was spectacular on the mound, going five and a third in relief, earning the victory and striking out four Royals batters while allowing just one hit. Eagles starter Max Fronk went three and two-thirds with two strikeouts and five runs allowed, four were earned.

Walters led the way for Jamestown at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs driven in. Michael Mahoney went 3-for-4 with a run scored and three singles, and Nold was 1-for-2 and had two walks. Valley City’s Gerhadt finished the day 1-for-4 while driving in two runs. Braxton Jorrison was 1-for-3 with two walks. Both teams committed three errors defensively.

For Valley City, starter Joe Cummings tossed three innings, giving up three runs but none were earned to the right hander. Adam Bitz was handed the loss out of the bullpen after throwing two innings and giving up four earned runs off of five hits. Max Mehus also pitched three innings in relief, with one unearned run scoring while he was on the mound. Mehus finished with the only two strikeouts for Royals pitchers.

Both teams have a quick turnaround as Post 60 will be in Mayville tomorrow before heading to Fargo Thursday for a doubleheader. Jamestown will take on Mandan tomorrow at 5:30 from Jack Brown Stadium before hosting Watford City on Thursday at 2.
