JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Dr. Shylah Schauer of Jamestown is only one of seven naturopathic doctors in North Dakota.
Naturopathic medicine is a system that uses natural remedies to help the body heal itself. It embraces many therapies, including herbs, massage, acupuncture, exercise, and nutritional counseling.
Dr. Schauer says naturopathic doctors are trained to diagnose, treat, and manage patients with acute and chronic conditions. They do this while addressing disease and dysfunction at the levels of body, mind, and spirit.
She says she was drawn to this type of care when she was on her own health journey.
Dr. Schauer says a lot of what they do with naturopathic medicine relies on patients who are dedicated to make lifestyle changes and not relying on pharmaceutical drugs.
Some conditions naturopathic medicine may be used to treat include allergies, headaches, fertility issues, digestive problems, obesity, hormonal imbalances, chronic pain, chronic fatigue and more.
She says she wanted to reach more people with natural medicine and provide different options for health. So she introduced her naturopathic medicine through telehealth.
Dr. Schauer says she provides treatments that include personalized health plans using supplementation, diet & lifestyle counseling, and functional labs when needed.
