JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Public School Board learned more about Cooperative Agreements between school districts when it comes to local sports and North Dakota High School Sports Association.
In May it was learned that St. John’s Academy would be adding 7th & 8th Grade. Following that announcement, JPS Superintendent Dr. Rob Lech reports St. John’s Academy had applied for membership to the NDHSAA and requested a cooperative with JPS in different sports.
Currently, JPS co-ops with many different schools in different sports including Barnes County North, Carrington, Medina, Montpelier, Pingree/Buchanan, and Valley City.
Dr. Lech says after they were notified, a secondary administrative team met in May to gather data for the request.
Dr. Lech says transportation, cost, and other variables were discussed. To date, there has not been a request to JPS regarding activities that have been offered. He added that private school students, including those at St. John’s Academy, are eligible to participate if enrolled in any classes at JPS. Electives such as orchestra, band, and chorus are available.
He suggested that since the deadline had passed for the upcoming year, the board could begin looking into this type of co-op agreement sometime in the fall for next year.
In other school news, the district received one bid at $20,000 for the Transition House. JPS Business Manager Sally Ost says the bidder will receive a formal letter pending board approval.
During the approval of contracts, board member Bob Toso stated his concern in the number of applications received for an open position within the school district.
Dr. Lech says they started the dual credit intro to education class at the High School to encourage students who are drawn to education have the ability to receive more credit.
The board is also seeking someone to fill a vacancy. Those interested can contact the Jamestown Public School District.
