VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Barnes County Historical Society will be holding its annual meeting at 7 pm on Thursday, June 17th at the Hi-Liner Activity Center. “With COVID-19 restrictions lifted for those who are vaccinated, we feel safe in having our annual meeting and we invite anyone interested to attend,” states Wes Anderson, Barnes County Museum curator.

7 pm – Barnes County Historical Society Annual Meeting: Reports and election of new board members.

Celebrating Suffragist Elizabeth Preston Anderson and 100 Years of Votes for Women – The program, open to the public, is sponsored by the Barnes County Historical Society and What in the World’s Going On. All events take place at the Hi-Liner Activity Center and are open to the public.

7:30 pm to 8 pm;  Introductory Remarks by Susan Wefald, discussing “Elizabeth Preston Anderson, Tower City-Valley City Activist” and Dedication of Elizabeth Preston Anderson National Votes for Women historical marker which is placed at the southwest corner of the courthouse block.

8 pm to 8:45 pm;  Readers Theater presentation of the new play “Persistence,” by Kathleen Coudle- King, associate teaching professor in the UND English Department and award winning playwright.  The play features Elizabeth Preston Anderson as one of the main characters in the play as North Dakota approves women’s right to vote in 1917.  Directed by Carol Foth.

All events are  free and open to the public.
