JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The bats were alive at Jack Brown Stadium on Wednesday night as the Jamestown Post 14 Eagles fell 11-8 and 12-0 to the Fargo Post 400 Stars to open up the Legion baseball season.
Fargo jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning and would tack on five more runs over the course of the next two frames to go in front 8-2 heading into the bottom of the third. Jacoby Nold would bring in a run in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly, and Ty Monson brought in one more on a single that scored Preston Kroeber.
The Eagles made the game even closer in the bottom of the fourth by scoring three runs, all of which came off the bat of Nold who doubled down the line in left to clear the bases. With the score at 8-7 after four, Fargo would score two more insurance runs in the fifth and one more in the seventh to lead 11-8 going into the last inning. Isaac Mimong brought in a run in the sixth and Jamestown loaded the bases in the seventh, but Kobe Senn worked out of the jam to give Fargo a win to start the season.
Nold led Jamestown by going 2-for-3 with five runs driven in. Mimong finished the day 2-for-3 with three runs scored and one run brought in. Monson drove in a run and scored once with going 3-for-4 with three singles. Carson Orr went five innings in relief for Jamestown while allowing six runs, four of which were earned.
Fargo hopped out to an early lead in game two as well and never looked back, holding Jamestown to just four total hits as a team in the second game of the doubleheader. Nolan Nenow was handed the loss on the hill, and Brooks Roaldson led the way for the Eagles by going 1-for-2.
The Eagles will play again on Friday in Bismarck against the Capitals before returning to Jack Brown on Monday to face the Bismarck Senators beginning at 5:30 pm.
